Website maintenance for Huntsville small businesses
Most small business websites are built once and then left alone. Here's what maintenance actually involves, how to tell if your site needs attention, and what it costs.
What website maintenance includes
It's the regular upkeep that keeps a site accurate and working after it's built. For a small business site, that usually means:
- Backups, so the site can be restored if a change goes wrong.
- Updates, for the software or plugins the site runs on, when it has any.
- Checks, that links, forms and phone numbers still work, and that pages load properly on a phone.
- Content changes, like new hours, prices, photos and services.
- A short note, so you know what was done and what to watch.
Signs your website needs attention
- The footer still shows an old year, or the hours and prices are out of date.
- On a phone, the menu or logo runs off the edge of the screen.
- The phone number isn't something a visitor can tap to call.
- A button or link leads to a page that no longer exists.
- Your contact form hasn't been tested in a long time, and you're not sure anything arrives.
- The site shows a browser warning about the connection not being secure.
If you recognize two or three of these, a quick check is a good idea.
Do I need maintenance if I use Wix or Squarespace?
Those platforms handle much of the technical upkeep for you. What they can't do is keep your content current. Hours change, prices change, photos go stale, and a page that was right two years ago may now be wrong. Someone still has to make those changes, and many owners don't have the time.
What website maintenance costs
It depends on the site and on how much work is included. A do-it-yourself approach costs only your time. Paid care plans vary widely, so compare what's included, not just the price: how much time you get each month, how quickly you get a reply, and whether you receive a written note on what was done.
At Alabama Web Care, one-time fixes are quoted in writing before I start, and care plans start at $75 a month or $750 a year. Hosting, domain names and paid software are separate and stay in your name.
Start with a free written check
I look at your site on a phone and a computer and send you a short report with screenshots. You don't have to buy anything.

How long does a site check take?
I usually reply with the written check by the next business day.
Do you promise better Google rankings or more customers?
No, and be careful of anyone who does. I make your site accurate and working. What customers do after that is up to them.
Who owns my website and domain?
You do. They stay in your name, and I only ask for the access I need. If we stop working together, I hand everything back.
Do I have to change my website to work with you?
No. I work on the site you already have. If it can't be saved, I'll say so plainly and quote a simple replacement.
